How Small Business Friendly is Your State?

A new survey of over 6,000 small business owners across the country focused on how small business owners viewed the economic climate and overall environment facing them in their specific regions. Those surveyed were asked to rate their cities and states across a number of different categories that affect small business success. Idaho, Texas, Oklahoma and Utah were ranked as the friendliest states, while Rhode Island, Vermont, Hawaii and California rounded out the bottom. A spokesman for the survey said that while it is surprising that smaller states such as Idaho and Oklahoma are at the top of the list, it is because they are small that they're governments are doing everything they can to attract businesses. "An important takeaway for us was how local issues faced by small businesses are," he said, "We found that it wasn't the state and national policies that determined how friendly regions were, but the local entities that small businesses had to interact with on a daily basis."
